Dispute Resolution
Conflict Assessment Tool
You love your church. Whatever the source of conflict, you have worked hard to resolve the issues that brought you to this place of frustration, stress, and impasse. Those involved feel stuck.
Seemingly small differences have grown. Harmony between pastor, staff and board members, between staff members, within the church community, has been fractured. Now what?
Attempts at "conflict resolution" are often made. In some situations, some form of arbitration occurs with help from someone outside the local church. All conflicts are eventually "settled" but sometimes those involved have not been able to get through the difficult time successfully so that they can transition to a better place in life. Pastors resign. Board members quit. People leave. And the conflict dies down. But at times people walk away hurt and wounded. Some pastors leave the ministry. Some Christians leave the church. Teens watch and never forget.
Is conflict resolution in your church really possible? If those involved are willing to talk about the dispute, Church Mediators should be able to help them resolve it and move into the future with a better sense of closure. Does anyone know how to help churches actually walk through and resolve conflict? The answer is "yes"!
